Mireja Cano

Mireia Cano is founder and lead consultant of CANO Gender Solutions, providing gender consultancy services to UN agencies and International and Norwegian NGOs. Mireia acted as gender advisor with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Colombia peace process.  A selection of other key assignments include: an evaluation for the FAO on the project Strengthening the role of women in water conflict resolution in Yemen; a gender audit for International Alert of the Peace and Security Framework in DRC and the Great Lakes; a GBV assessment in the context of peacebuilding in Mali for CARE; a study on Colombian refugee women’s access to housing and land rights in Panama for NRC; an evaluation of UNICEF’s program Rapid Response to Population Movements in DRC ; an analysis of the integrated security approach for female human rights defenders in Israel and OPT for Kvinna till Kvinna. Mireia has also developed gender policies for the World Food Programme, UNICEF, the UN Industrial Development Organization, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, Action Against Hunger and The Rainforest Foundation Norway. She led a participatory gender audit with the Prosecution Division of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. She has facilitated gender trainings for the European Directorate for Humanitarian Aid and developed a Gender in Humanitarian Action Training of Trainers for GENCAP. She holds an MSc on International Development from SOAS and on Refugee Studies from UEL, UK, and speaks Spanish, English and French.
