Human rights grants to EU assessed
2017-02-02
Over 2.000 applications for EU support assessed. During late 2016 and the first months of 2017, a small NCG Sweden team evaluated proposals from several thousands international and local human rights and other civil society organisations requesting funding from EIDHR, the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), a budget line within EU’s development cooperation. EIDHR’s budget for 2018-2019 is approximately 35 MEUR (million euros).
The NCG Sweden experts evaluated applications concerning four of the five specific human rights issues in this call for grants. Initiatives to 1) support women human rights defenders, 2) prevent, eliminate and punish the practice of torture, 3) to promote the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and 4) to support Transitional Justice Processes. The fifth sub-theme was the rights of persons belonging to minorities and persons affected by caste-based discriminations.
NCG contributed with two experts assessing 250 grant applications in a team of 20 consultants with extensive knowledge of human rights, civil society organisations and the specific topics in this EIDHR call.
