Within the framework of the regional strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa 2016-2021, the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) has been tasked to contribute towards the following result: Strengthened capacity of regional actors to implement the UN resolutions on Women, Peace and Security with focus on integrating a gender perspective to empower women´s equal participation as well as the ability to meet the security needs of girls and women, boys and men. Towards this end, FBA is currently implementing a contribution to support the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), specifically its Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (PAPS). The expected outcome is that PAPS has strengthened its capacity to promote peace and security through an improved ability to identify inequalities between women and men, as well as through the establishment of structures and methods to strengthen how they work on gender mainstreaming.
NCG Sweden has recently signed a contract with FBA to evaluate the contribution and provide insights for both FBA and ECOWAS to shape continued cooperation in the forthcoming strategy period 2022-2026.
The expected timeline for the evaluation is May-November 2021. The evaluation team is led by Ananda Millard, with Suzana Zivkovic as team member.
