The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is a public capacity building institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. With a vision of contributing to sound economic management and sustained development in Sub-Saharan Africa, AERC offers research cooperation, policy outreach and graduate training involving researchers, policymakers and universities across Africa and the world. As the organization continuously improves itself and aims to scale up its operation and mechanism for policy influence in Sub-Saharan Africa, AERC envisages gender equality and equal opportunities to be important components of success. This view is supported by Sida and has consequently materialized into an assignment lasting three years (2022-2025) to support AERC in mainstreaming gender in its capacity building programs and partnering research institutions and universities.
The assignment is currently being conducted by the NCG team consisting of Annica Holmberg as the team leader; Mireia Cano, Elaine Unterhalter, Colletah Chitsike as team members; and Ulf Färnsveden as quality assurance personnel. This “Core team” is further supported by a pool of three experts – Lesley Abdela, Marzia Fontana and Tamsin Bradley – whose complementary expertise will benefit the Core team when needed towards the training/coaching phase of the assignment.
